What is Hands-on Learning?

A method of education where learners actively engage with the subject matter through direct interaction and experience.

Learning that integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics

What is STEM Learning?

Objectives

  • Empowering teachers to use tinkering methods in classrooms.

  • Aligning activities with real-world applications and curriculum topics

  • Encouraging teamwork, discussion, and problem-solving

  • Integrating STEM learning with national events for deeper impact

  • Engaging participants with real tools, materials, and experiments

  • Helping students and Teachers in National level competitions on STEM

Book Hands-On STEM Workshop

During our Teacher's Workshops, educators learn how to make learning more engaging by incorporating hands-on activities as effective teaching tools. We provide teachers the practical knowledge on using low-cost, hands-on experiments and accessible technology to enhance classroom teaching and improve the overall learning experience for students.

We conduct half-day workshops for students, where they engage in hands-on activities aligned with their curriculum. Under our supervision, students build and perform various experiments, with concepts explained and discussed throughout the process. Additionally, we demonstrate a range of experiments to deepen their understanding and spark curiosity.

We conduct 1-hour STEM workshops that include a variety of engaging activities such as hands-on STEM experiments, 3D printing, pen plotter demonstrations, paper prototyping, electronics, and tinkering sessions.

Kalpakghar actively engages with the visitors of Pimpri Chinchwad Science Park during special events by conducting fun and theme-based activities. Throughout the year, we celebrate a variety of special events and programs. These include Independence Day, Republic Day, Space Day, Teacher's Day, Children's Day, Math Day, Women's Day, National Science Day, etc. We also actively engage visitors during festive seasons such as Diwali, Christmas, Makar Sankranti, New Year, etc. National Science Day is celebrated as a four-day event, which includes various STEM-based competitions, activities, and workshops.

Lesson Plans for Teachers

Video Resources on Youtube

The Science Activity Centre generates resource material for teachers, students and science enthusiasts that explains scientific concepts through do-it-yourself (DIY) hands-on activities. These include videos, sequential photographs and small booklets that describe the process of making toys/exhibits and also explain the scientific principle behind them. This digital repository has sections for various disciplines of sciences that are generally covered in primary and secondary school curriculum. This repository will be useful for teachers who want to make these models for their classroom teaching and for students and science enthusiasts who want to explore scientific concepts by performing small experiments.

Tinkering in science refers to a hands-on, experiential approach to learning that encourages exploration, experimentation, and problem-solving. The science-focused sessions in this module cover key topics such as ecosystems and soilless farming, volume, pressure, and density, effects of electric current (electromagnetism and electrochemistry), and the use of STEM challenges as pedagogical tools. These modules provide a deeper understanding of ecosystem dynamics, practical applications of volume, pressure, and density, and insights into electromagnetism and electrochemistry. These sessions aim to equip educators with the knowledge and tools to inspire students in science, foster critical thinking, and create meaningful learning experiences in the classrooms.

Lesson Plans on Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics are blended with hands-on activities to make learning engaging. Lesson Plans are available in English as well as Marathi.

The best way of learning Science is to perform experiments! To encourage the incorporation of experiential learning in classroom practices, Smt. Indrani Balan Science Activity Centre (SAC) has been established as part of CoESME at IISER Pune with the help of a generous donation by Balan Group, Pune. We are engaged in developing low-cost interactive science toys that can be used to teach science in an engaging and hands-on way. The objective is to strengthen teaching and learning of science & mathematics by use of these simple toys and hands-on activities. The SAC generates resource material for teachers, students and science enthusiasts that explains scientific concepts through do-it-yourself (DIY) hands-on activities. These include videos, sequential photographs and small booklets that describe the process of making toys/exhibits and also explain the scientific principle behind them. Lectures and demonstrations by senior teachers made available for the public.
